Red Collar Crime: When Corporate Fraud Turns Violent
We often associate white collar crime with suits, spreadsheets, and subtle deception. But what happens when the stakes are so high, the fraud so deep, that the cover-up turns deadly?
That’s red collar crime.
It’s a term used to describe white collar criminals who commit violent acts — often to silence whistleblowers, destroy evidence, or intimidate investigators.
In Pakistan, we tend to see white collar crime as “clean” or “non-violent.” But financial crimes tied to real estate scams, political kickbacks, and fake investment schemes have sometimes led to disappearances, intimidation, or worse.
Red collar crime is not officially recognised in our penal codes — but its reality is something lawyers, investigators, and corporations must be aware of.
As the financial landscape gets more complex, corporate crime is no longer confined to balance sheets.
